Carson Wentz has been done so wrong by the Philadelphia Eagles organization it’s almost criminal. Wentz being benched for Jalen Hurts was the last straw. Honestly, I can’t blame the guy I’d be pissed off at Pederson too.
Early Sunday morning. ESPN’s Adam Schefter tweeted a report from fellow ESPN insider Chris Mortensen that Wentz is going to ask for a trade in the off-season.
Nevertheless, I expected this to happen at some point. Imagine the embarrassment Wentz has felt while being the Eagles QB. First, Wentz got hurt in the middle of an amazing season. Then had to watch Nick Foles go win the Super Bowl in his place. Second, the fans and media constantly blame him for what a bad season the Eagles have had. Last but not least the Eagles bench Wentz for Hurts, who they took in the second round in this year’s draft.
Combining all of that with the fact Pederson completely changed his playbook to something more dynamic when Hurts took over is a joke. If I were Wentz I would want to go to another NFC East team just to kick the Eagles ass twice a year every year. However, Wentz will be lucky if the Eagles grant his wish.
Wentz is still owed $75 million in guaranteed money. Which would lessen what the Eagles can get back for him depending on how much of that they are willing to take on. Still, there is light at the end of this sad tunnel for Wentz. There are numerous teams that are win-now ready and are just missing a QB. Teams like the Pittsburgh Steelers and Indianapolis Colts come to mind.
Wentz going to the Colts would be his best situation in my opinion. They already have an elite defense so the pressure on him to score every drive won’t be there. The offensive line is one of the best in football which will keep him healthy. Add that to a good run-game and Wentz has himself the most help in years.
The Eagles have made a grave mistake in handling this situation. I cannot wait for Wentz to thrive somewhere else. While the Eagles are enamored by Hurts who will fizzle out faster than Meatloaf’s music career.
