The Milwaukee Bucks are on a mission to convince Giannis Antetokounmpo that he can win a championship with the team that drafted him. Late Monday night, the Bucks made a splash to improve their roster. Milwaukee has traded for Pelicans point guard Jrue Holiday. The 2020 NBA offseason is off to a big start!
Shams Charania of The Athletic and The Stadium was the first to report the news!
Eric Bledsoe, George Hill, and draft picks will head to New Orleans. More information has trickled in about the draft pick compensation the Bucks are sending New Orleans.
Milwaukee sent the farm, lake, river, boat, and recipe to the Krabby Patty to Holiday. Pelicans general manager David Griffin was able to secure an Anthony Davis type of deal for Jrue Holiday. Three first round picks are one thing. Pick swaps are another. As of right now, there have been no announcements on the swaps or if the picks are protected.
Holiday becomes the third point guard to be on the move. Dennis Schroder was traded to the Lakers. Chris Paul was sent to Phoenix. It’s likely Milwaukee were players in both of those deals.
Milwaukee is all the way in. The Bucks believe that Holiday is the missing piece to a championship Otherwise, you don’t make this move. Can the Bucks win a championship with a trio of Giannis, Khris Middleton, and Holiday? Time will tell.
New Orleans is loaded with draft picks. Now it’s time to rebuild and design a contender around Zion Williamson for the future. Moving Holiday’s expiring contract felt like only a matter of time.
