Barstool Sports fires Matt Fitzgerald

After CEO of Barstool Sports Dave Portnoy bought back the company from Penn Entertainment, things have been different. Portnoy has vowed to change Barstool and bring back the old company ways. With that, it isn’t looking pretty in the rebuilding stage for the company, especially for the employees. Barstool has now fired blogger Matt Fitzgerald according to Portnoy himself.

Fitzgerald, an all-purpose blogger for Barstool, has seen his time come to an end with the company. Although Portnoy had some words to say about Fitzgerald, it seems like the Miami University graduate walked out with his chin high.

The former Barstool Bengals fanatic wrote on his X, praising the company for his time being there.

“This turned out to be my last article for Barstool. Best job I ever had. Thanks to everyone for the opportunity. Viva

Fitzgerald isn’t the only victim of the changes going on in Barstool. Troopz, a longtime employee of the company who did soccer content, parted ways with Barstool last week.

So far, it looks like the buyback is looking rough for Barstool, but Portnoy said it himself. He knew they would lose millions and be in a rough patch as soon as he bought the company back.

“I knew before I bought the company back, it was losing millions,” Portnoy said. “I can get back in control of this thing—it may be rough for a couple months getting things back to where we’re not getting F—ing smoked, but I think I could make this a good place to work.”

For now, Barstool is looking for a rebranding time, a time to get the train back on its tracks and keep chugging along. If that means firing lazy employees, then so be it. Do what it takes to be successful.

This might be only the beginning of the Barstool Sports layoffs, so stay tuned with Vendetta for all information regarding them.
