What a ride it has been for Kliff Kingsbury. Just months ago, Kliff was fired from Texas Tech. Deservedly so. A 35-40 record at Texas Tech isn’t good enough. Kinsbury was then hired as USC’s offensive coordinator. Then Kingsbury resigned as somehow landed a promotion! Kingsbury will become the new head coach of the Arizona Cardinals.
Peter Schrager of NFL Network and Fox Sports was the first to report the news:
I have no words. How do you get fired from a college job but land a NFL head coaching job just months later? Kingsbury does have one great quality. He works well with quarterbacks. He has coaching experience with a number of NFL quarterbacks. Is that recruiting or can Kingsbury really coach? Kingsbury has always had a great offense at Texas Tech but defense has always been an issue. How great of a leader is Kliff? We have no idea?
What I do know is the Cardinals are desperate. They fired Steve Wilks who was a flat out clown. He had one year of experience as a defensive coordinator and never called plays in Carolina. Ron Rivera controlled that unit. Now they hire Kingsbury who has zero NFL coaching experience or play calling experience. The Cardinals apparently don’t care. This will either work or not work whether he can fix Josh Rosen.
This does really suck for USC. Clay Helton is screwed. Helton doesn’t have a clue what he is doing a really needed someone to take control of the offense. The Ryan Gosling look-alike was going to do that. Kliff Kingsbury will have to snoop around Arizona instead of USC for new women now. That apparently was the biggest reason why he wanted the USC job. Take that as you may.
