Kelly McCrimmon Had A Man Crush On Colton Sissons

Nic Roy had to be the sacrificial lamb to acquire Mitch Marner, but the Golden Knights already had a replacement in mind. I’d even go as far as to say Kelly McCrimmon had a serious man crush on Colton Sissons.

Sissons, 31, will be the new fourth line center in Vegas behind Jack Eichel, Tomas Hertl, and William Karlsson. During the Mitch Marner press conference, McCrimmon talked about how long they have been eyeing Sissons to be part of the mix in Vegas.

“Colton Sissons is one of the best face-off men in the NHL,” said McCrimmon. “He’s an elite penalty killer, very well-defined and plays a very hard, direct style… And [he’s] a guy that I think really will help our team.

That quote doesn’t really do it justice. McCrimmon alluded to the fact that he watched him 60+ times last year and thinks the Predators played him out of position too often last year. It became pretty clear they valued Sissons’ forechecking ability and wanted a right-handed faceoff centerman for defensive zone draws.

Personally, I still don’t love the trade. Both Sissons and Jeremy Lauzon are on expiring contracts. It probably would have been better to get a long term piece back for Hague, but Sissons could easily play an important role this year, along with Lauzon who led the league in hits two years ago. This trade gave them more sandpaper, and when you’re signing a guy like Marner, it’s hard to question the tactic.
