Black Monday in the NFL. That is the day where a lot of people lose their jobs. So far, it’s looking like a dark day for a third of the league. We’re going to do a rundown of all the head coaches who are fired around the league. What teams will have openings in 2019?
Cleveland Browns: Hue Jackson was predictably fired in what seems like ages ago. I would be shocked if the interim coach, Gregg Williams gets the long-term job. Freddie Kitchens will probably stick as the offensive coordinator after his late-season success with Baker Mayfield. Mike McCarthy figures to be a candidate. Add in Adam Gase as well who has a relationship with Peyton Manning. Peyton is close with owner Jimmy Haslem so that makes some sense.
Green Bay Packers: Mike McCarthy has already been fired weeks ago. There are no indications that interim coach, Joe Philbin has any chance to get the head coaching job. The Packers are expected to make a run at Josh McDaniels.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Dirk Koetter was let go right after the season finale. Koetter had a record of 19-28 and really was never made for the position. He wasn’t a good coordinator to, begin with for the Falcons so I’m not sure why he ever got the job to, begin with.
New York Jets: Todd Bowles was also let go by the Jets after the season finale. Bowles recorded a record of 24-40 with the Jets. I would guess that the Jets go the offensive route to pair with Sam Darnold moving forward.
Denver Broncos: Vance Joseph is out who has been rumored to get canned for weeks. Joseph notched a record of 11-21. I never understood what John Elway saw in Joseph to, begin with. Joseph was a shit defensive coordinator in Miami before the Broncos job. He also couldn’t even organize Senior Bowl practices last year. Denver has a so much work to do that I can’t even fathom who they may target.
Miami Dolphins: Adam Gase has been fired by the Dolphins. Gase compiled a record of 23-25 with the team which is impressive considering the quarterback situation. He made the playoffs with Ryan Tannehill. He even won some games with Brock Osweiler and Jay Cutler. This roster stinks. I doubt Gase will be out of work for much longer and will likely land in a better situation.
Cincinnati Bengals: Thank god. Marvin Lewis has been ousted. Lewis spent the last 16 years as the Bengals head coach and never won a playoff game. The most boring and mediocre franchise in sports is finally making a change. If the Bengals replace Lewis with Hue Jackson, they should burn the franchise to the ground.
Arizona Cardinals: Steve Wilks was fired after just one year with the Cardinals. Arizona holds the first pick in the 2019 NFL Draft and Wilks was a total failure. Arizona should have never hired Wilks to begin with. He has just one year experience as a defensive coordinator with the Panthers where Ron Rivera was the main guy on that side of the ball anyway.
