Adonai Mitchell 2024 NFL Draft Profile
Adonai Mitchell, AKA AD Mitchell, is the topic today. How should you feel about the former Texas product? Let’s jump right into the weeds and not waste any more time.
Height, weight, speed. If that’s what you’re looking for, Mitchell is a target teams should have in mind. Former Georgia transfer and three star recruit coming out of the state of Tennessee. Didn’t have the most production at Georgia but absolutely dominated on the biggest stage during the College Football Playoff. Not sure if the Dawgs win without him. Was heroic during both title runs.
Not the biggest production this past year at Texas. Notched 55 receptions for 845 yards and 11. Mentioned quite a bit in the stock report notes. Honestly, my biggest concern was his long speed. More of a glider than pure burner. The Combine dispelled that myth pretty easily. Had very positive moments at Texas. Great performance against Alabama. Beat the piss out of Kansas State with a backup QB. Made Oklahoma State look like little girls. Not nearly as good against Washington. Missed a key touchdown in that game.
Checks in at 6-foot-2, 205. He’s the closest resemblance of George Pickens in this draft class. Not totally similar but close. Doesn’t have quite the angry mean streak with the ball in his hands. Not as tall but faster clocking in at a 4.34. Notched a 39 on the vert too. Really good in the red area. Doesn’t win as many jump balls as he should be it’s not like he stinks at it. Wins with leverage on the outside. Just wish he was a better pure hands catcher.
Route running is awesome. He’s almost too good at it. Over exaggerates his routes sometimes to a fault. For his size, definitely a plus in his arsenal. You’re not pressing him at the line. Good play speed and strength. Serious foot quickness. He’s going to get open. Want to see him be more of a prick. Does he have that in him? Sometimes it comes out in YAC situations. Can break tackles and the times he wins with the ball in the air he has those wow moments.
Like what I saw at the Combine. He’s a low-key freak. Mover and groove. Think he could be a dominant blocker but we don’t see it. Need him to be more angry. Consistency a bit of an issue. Sometimes takes over. Sometimes is okay with taking a backseat in the offense.
I have AD Mitchell as a top of the second round player. Too much talent to pass on. His deficiencies are workable and the pure ceiling is very intriguing. Has a true chance to develop into a number one receiver and I don’t say that lightly. There are like 10 of them in the entire league. Might not hit that ceiling but can still become a very good complimentary outside receiver with plus speed.
