Tom Telesco: Could I Have Saved His Job With The Chargers?

Not enough people are talking about Tom Telesco right now. You know, the man that was also fired by the Chargers that’s not Brandon Staley. Telesco absolutely deserved to be fired but I have pretty undisputable evidence that I would have single-handedly saved his job.

It never ceases to amaze me how ignorant some of these teams are. They would rather suck than call me for advice. I know that day is coming but it’s staggering how badly teams continue to screw up when I provide the free advice.

We’re going to walk down memory lane for this one.

The Chargers blow that playoff game against the Jaguars. Staley should have been fired on the spot. Something I went into great detail on. Telesco instead doubled down and said he ‘never considered‘ firing Staley.

Do you think that would happen if I worked in the Chargers’ front office? The answer is no. In fact, the answer is no with the obvious caveat that Sean Payton is the head coach of that team. Payton would have picked Justin Herbert over Russell Wilson. No question about that.

It’s one thing to hire Staley. It’s another to hire Staley after the disaster that was Anthony Lynn. When you botch two head coaching hires as an executive, you shouldn’t keep your job. If I worked for the Chargers, Lynn wouldn’t have been hired either.

The poor coaching decisions put Telesco on thin ice. Ultimately, it felt like something else was the straw that broke the camel’s back. Let’s take you back to November 26th. The Chargers played the Ravens on Sunday Night and Telesco’s bad decision-making was on display for the entire world to see.

The Chargers, of course, took Quintin Johnston with the 21st pick in the 2023 NFL Draft. The Ravens took Zay Flowers with the very next pick. That’s the decision that really got Telesco fired. It’s one thing to hire lame duck coaches. It’s another to also get your draft picks really wrong.

Do you think the Chargers would have picked Johnston ahead of Flowers if I worked for the team? If so, please revert back to my wide receiver rankings from the draft and come back to me.

Telesco lost his job because he never cut me a check to help him. That’s the reality of the situation. It’s just the truth. Too bad, so sad.
