Can DeMarcus Cousins Actually Help A Team In The Playoffs?

With the COVID-19 hiatus finally ending for the NBA officially on the July 31st, there’s been a lot of talk about players coming back from injuries and actually helping a team win. The latest of that talk is DeMarcus Cousins. Although he started on the Lakers this year, he got injured by tearing his ACL and is now a Free Agent. I don’t fully understand it, but it sounds like the NBA is allowing teams to sign players for the new and unique playoff set-up this year. That screams Cousins to the Lakers. But John Wall has reportedly lobbied aggressively for the Wizards to sign DeMarcus Cousins. The question here is: Can he actually help anyone?

DeMarcus Cousins Injury Prone

How can DeMarcus Cousins help any team if he can’t stay on the court. Hell, just between the 2017-2018 season and the 2018-2019 season, he has only played 78 games. Not even one full season’s worth in 2 years. In the 30 games he played with the Warriors last year, he only had about 16 PPG and 8 RPG. Hardly the production we are used to seeing from Boogie. With a string of bad injuries limiting him from seeing the court, it isn’t out of pocket to say that DeMarcus Cousins is injury prone. Until I see 2 seasons where he isn’t extremely limited in playing time, he is deemed as injury prone to me. If a team does sign him to their team, whether it be the Wizards, Lakers, or some other team, how many games can you actually guarantee he plays?

At this point in time, taking on DeMarcus Cousins for the hope he might play just reeks of desperation. The Wizards are the outside looking in for the playoffs but that makes sense. Everyone should know that I am not sold on these Lakers and don’t even think they make the NBA Finals. So naturally, if the Lakers signed Boogie, that reeks of desperation to me too. Outside of Lebron and AD, you can’t rely on Kyle Kuzma and Alex Caruso to carry your squad. I think Boogie might have a chance to prove himself next year. This year seems rushed and unusual in an already unusual setting. Cousins isn’t going to help your team, don’t even waste your time. By the way, John Wall, you have a lot of nerve telling other players to play when you said you’re not coming back this year. Come back this year if you want Boogie to come back.
