Does Carson Wentz Have Any Fantasy Value With The Rams?

Carson Wentz is so back. It’s almost like he never left. Wentz has signed a contract with the Rams and it appears he’s going to start with Matthew Stafford on the shelf. Fantasy football managers have to manage their teams with the cards dealt to them in the real NFL world. Now that Wentz is back, how do fantasy managers react accordingly? Does Wentz even have value?

For starters, the answer is yes. The answer is yes because it has to be yes. Look around. Quarterbacks are dropping like flies. QBs are so down bad that Tommy DeVito is a starter somehow. If you’re a real man and you play in a two-QB league, then Wentz for sure has to be rostered.

Rostered and value mean two different things in fantasy. In terms of value, I think we really need to consider what Baker Mayfield did in his trial run with the Rams. Frankly, it’s pretty similar given that Mayfield essentially did the same thing that Wentz is doing now. Just a year earlier.

In four starts with the Rams last year, Mayfield threw four touchdowns and two picks. Keep in mind, that Rams team didn’t have Cooper Kupp. This one does along with the emergence of Puka Nacua. Last time I checked, Sean McVay is still there too and it was pretty obvious that McVay helped Baker play semi well all things considered. I don’t see why that can’t also be the case with Wentz.

Wentz might be a total mess. I think it’s fair to call him that. However, he does have a Jameis type of quality in terms of being a gunslinger you want in fantasy. Most people would tell you that Wentz was pretty terrible with the Colts. He still found a way to throw 27 touchdowns in that 2021 season with Frank Reich as the head coach. Have you seen Reich with the Panthers this year?

Have I started to sell you a little? The only thing you really need to be concerned with are expectations. What are your expectations and is Wentz matching them? If you’re in the mix when it comes to fantasy and you need a QB2 for your lineup, I don’t think it’s crazy to take the shot. Don’t expect Wentz to carry you but I don’t see why he can’t put up respectable fantasy numbers if you’re dying for a QB2 late in the season.
