It’s time to dive deeper into the NBA free agents. This time, I will be dissecting the NBA free agents shooting guards. The top 5 are great and it slowly dies off from there, but this class does has some good talent if you can get the top players. Without further ado, let’s get into it.
Mario Hezonja (Age 25) SG (Player Option): Stats: 4.8 PPG on 42.9% shooting, 0.9 APG, 3.4 RPG in 16 minutes per game. Contract: 1.6 Million
There’s no reason why Mario Hezonja should opt-in to his contract unless he thinks that the Blazers will win a championship. If he is looking for a bigger role or some more money, he just needs to move on. Hezonja doesn’t have the most glamorous stats but he is still young and has a lot of upside. He’ll have a few teams calling him if he doesn’t opt-in his contract.
Andre Roberson (Age 28) SG: Andre Roberson has been injured the whole year, therefore, he has no stats this year. Contract: 10 Million
The reason why Andre Roberson is so low on this list is because he was injured the whole year and the fact he basically has no offensive ability whatsoever. However, Roberson is one of the best, if not the best, defender in the NBA. The Thunder seem like they are doing quite fine without him so it wouldn’t surprise me if they let him walk and use that 10 million elsewhere. Still, given his defensive ability, Roberson will have quite the lineup of teams offering him a contract looking to improve their defense.
Bryn Forbes (Age 27) SG: Stats: 11.2 PPG on 41.7% shooting, 1.7 APG, 2 RPG in 25 minutes per game. Contract: 3 Million
Despite the 11.2 PPG on decent shooting, I decided to put Bryn Forbes this low because I, as a Spurs fan, have watched him quite enough. Although he is a decent shooter, he would infuriate me in his defensive ability. 9/10 if he was on the floor and a guard scored, that was his man. He’s a great shooter if you need a decent role player and need some 3s. But playing 25 minutes per game in non-situational circumstances was not it for me. I can see him getting paid around 10 million just for his shooting capabilities, I just hope it’s not the Spurs.
Austin Rivers (Age 28) SG (Player Option): Stats: 8.5 PPG on 42.1% shooting, 1.6 APG, 2.4 RPG in 23 minutes per game. Contract: 2.2 Million
I think Austin Rivers has a chance to be a sneaky good pickup for teams. At only 28, he’s played a majority of a role player off the bench but was always a great ball-handler. He could have a chance to start on one of the bad teams in the NBA, or still, have an increased role somewhere else. Either way, I can see him getting paid way more than 2.2 million. I could see a reunion with the Clippers, much less his dad in Los Angeles.
Furkan Korkmaz (Age 23) SG: Stats: 9.7 PPG on 43.2% shooting, 1.1 APG, 2.3 RPG 22 in minutes per game. Contract: 1.7 Million
Furkan Korkmaz has emerged to be a household name in Philadelphia. Given his age and his ability to shoot, the market for Kormaz will be competitive. The problem for the 76ers is that they need shooting and Korkmaz is certainly good as gone. The 76ers probably won’t have enough money to compete for him unless they trade worthless Al Horford. Shooters are a hot commodity in the NBA today, Kormaz will get some good money this offseason.
Langston Galloway (Age 28) SG: Stats: 10.3 PPG on 43.5% shooting, 1.5 APG, 2.3 RPG in 26 minutes per game. Contract: 7 Million
Langston Galloway might flourish in another setting. The Detroit Pistons are a mess, but they have started the guideline I made for them to fix it. Unfortunately, that means letting some of their better players walk this offseason. Galloway could be a quality starter on a bad team or a key bench player on a good team. He will get a bit of a raise this offseason, looking about 10-15 million at the most for him.
Avery Bradley (Age 29) SG (Player Option): Stats: 8 PPG on 44.4% shooting, 1.3 APG, 2.3 RPG in 24 minutes per game. Contract: 4.9 Million
There’s a lot of uncertainty on the Lakers this offseason. Not only do they have NINE free agents this year, but 5 of them have player options. Meaning for more than half of their free agents, they won’t have control if they want them or not. To make matters worse, the 5 with player options are all of the Lakers more expensive free agents. This group includes Avery Bradley. He seemed have to have a stutter in his career as I have no idea what happened to him after he played for the Celtics. But with the Lakers he played fined and got his name back out there. He is your prototypical 3 and D guard and while still only 29, should have a good market for him. Don’t expect him to opt-in to his contract unless he wants to play with Lebron. If he opts-in, Lakers get a solid steal for a guard that could make around 10 million.
Malik Beasley (Age 23) SG (Restricted): Stats: 11.2 PPG on 42.5% shooting, 1.4 APG, 2.7 RPG in 22 minutes per game. Contract: 1.9 Million
Malik Beasley will definitely be the steal of the NBA free agents shooting guards. He had a tremendous year for a 23-year-old. Now the market for him should be competitive. The only thing that is working in the Wolves favor right now is that Beasley is on a restricted contract right now. With Evan Turner’s contract expiring for 17.5 million, the Timberwolves might have enough to keep Malik Beasley. They should have no problem retaining him if James Johnson opts-out of his contract, I just don’t see that happening.
Glenn Robinson III SG: (Age 26) Stats: 11.8 PPG on 48.6% shooting, 1.6 APG, 4.3 RPG in 29 minutes per game. Contract: 1.8 Million
This is the second shooter that the 76ers are about to lose given their cap situation. The 76ers are in a bit of predicament this offseason. They have no cap space and will lose valuable shooting in Robinson, This is good news for those looking for a shooter on the market though because there are plenty of shooters to try to get this offsetting. Robinson III could be looking at 10 million or more just for his shooting capabilities.
Alec Burks (Age 29) SG: Stats: 15.1 PPG on 40.4% shooting, 2.9 APG, 4.4 RPG in 27 minutes per game. Contract: 2.3 Million
That’s right, the 76ers are about to lose 3 shooters on their team. All because they gave Al Horford a bad contract. Unless they trade him, the 76ers will have even less shooting than they did this year. What was thought to be a great future for the 76ers, it just looks darker and darker for them. Alec Burks is another great shooter on the market and I can see him getting almost 10 million this offseason or more.
Joe Harris (Age 29) SG: Stats: 13.9 PPG on 47.1% shooting, 2.1 APG, 4.3 RPG in 31 minutes per game. Contract: 8 Million
The best shooter on the market in our NBA free agents shooting guards is Joe Harris. Which he often gets overlooked quite often. But he’s won the 3PT contest before and boasts a high 3PT%. If you need someone to shoot 3s at a high rate Joe Harris is your guy. He will get a sizable raise just for his ability to shoot 3s. The problem for the Nets is that I don’t think they’ll be able to retain him. They’ll need as much cap as they can get from their expiring contracts to make it work.
Bogdan Bogdanovic (Age 28) SG (Restricted): Stats: 14.5 PPG on 43.3% shooting, 3.2 APG, 3.2 RPG in 28 minutes per game. Contract: 9 Million
Another one of my sneaky favorites. I’ve always been a big fan of both the unrelated Bogdanovic’s. This time, it is the lesser of the two Bogdanovic’s but still a solid piece. I think Bogdan could be looking at a sizable raise this offseason. I see him around them the 15 million range. Luckily, Kent Bazemore’s contract is expiring for 17.5 million. There will be plenty of money for the Kings to retain him. But if he’s over 20 million, do not match the offer sheet.
Evan Fournier (Age 27) SG (Player Option): Stats: 18.8 PPG on 47% shooting, 3.2 APG, 2.6 RPG in 31 minutes per game. Contract: 17 Million
Here is a lesser-known guy that will have a great market for him in free agency. He is arguably the Magic’s best player. Should he want different scenery, there’s no doubt that he will have his options. If he wants to give it another go with the Magic (why?) then he can choose to opt-in his contract and play another year. If it was up to me though, I’d go to a better team.
Tim Hardaway Jr. (Age 28) SG (Player Option): Stats: 15.8 PPG on 43.7% shooting, 2 APG, 3.1 RPG in 29 minutes per game. Contract: 17.7 Million
There’s a huge drop-off between 1 and 2, but let’s not act like Tim Hardaway Jr. is anything to be disappointed with. He’s become one of the Maverick’s best players and only looks to improve his game. He is on a player option, however. If he decides to opt-in, the Mavericks will lose out on 17.7 million plus with Courtney Lee’s expiring contract would make about 29 million to spend. Mavericks are ahead of schedule being that they are in the playoffs, and could compete for a title in the next couple years. Tim Hardaway Jr. could definitely help with that.
DeMar DeRozan (Age 31) SG (Player Option): Stats: 22.2 PPG on 52.6% shooting, 5.6 APG, 5.6 RPG in 34 minutes per game. Contract: 27.8 Million
The best option out of all the NBA free agents shooting guards IF he opts out of his contract, As a Spurs fan, I would like to have him opt-in so we can still try to trade him this next season. If he walks, we basically lose a great player for nothing. If you’re not the Spurs, DeMar DeRozan is the go-to option if you have a lot of money and need scoring at the wing. Don’t let the stats fool you, he can get more than 22 points per game on any given night. Playing with the Spurs, who emphasize passing more, probably is the reason his PPG is lower. He is getting older but he probably has about 2 more years left in his prime. This concludes the NBA free agents shooting guards analysis but BELOW IS THE FULL LIST OF NBA FREE AGENTS!!
