2020 NFL Draft War Room: Miami Dolphins

2020 NFL Draft

Get ready for the mother load. The 2020 NFL Draft will probably be remembered for what the Miami Dolphins do. Miami has 14 picks for the 2020 NFL Draft as of now. 5 of those picks come in the top 56. It’s a make or break draft for the Dolphins. It could be the first step towards building a title contender or the first step towards irrelevancy for years to come. Let’s head inside the war room!

If the Miami Dolphins fail to land Tua Tagovailoa, they will have themselves to blame. Miami won the final 2 games of their season to put their pick at 5 instead of 3. Now they may be forced to give up picks to move. Those last two games of a meaningless season could haunt Miami for a long time. I don’t know which quarterback they like but it sounds like Tua is their guy. I’d take Tua with the first pick. If you have read the site in the past, I’m sure you already know my thoughts.

The 18th pick is a tricky one. I go back to this often but Miami has to hope that one of the elite receivers or tackle prospects fall. It will turn this draft into a home run draft. Those players include CeeDee Lamb, Jerry Jeudy, and Henry Ruggs III at wide receiver. The tackle prospects include Mekhi Becton, Andrew Thomas, Jedrick Wills, and Tristan Wirfs. The worst case scenario would be they reach for a player like Josh Jones at 18. Miami can’t let that happen.

At 26, I think Miami could target a safety to replace Minkah Fitzpatrick. Maybe they go back to the Alabama well and snag Xavier McKinney. I just talked about this on a recent mailbag. Most experts have McKinney as the number one safety. I like Delpit, but that’s just me. It seems like Antoine Winfield is making a climb up the boards too. Regardless, Adrian Colbert and Eric Rowe aren’t cutting it. Slide in McKinney and you have yourself a respectable starter again.

The top of the 2nd round feels like a place to jump on a running back. It’s going to be close if Miami can pull this off or not at the 39th pick. There’s talk D’Andre Swift could fall to 39. I think more realistic, JK Dobbins is on the board. Jordan Howard is fine but you’re not getting far with just him as the primary back. Kalen Ballage hasn’t taken the leap I thought he would. Dobbins would be perfect to take the full workload.

The Dolphins still need offensive line help. The current set of starters are Julie’N Davenport, Ereck Flowers, Ted Karras, Michael Dieter, and Jesse Davis. This entire group needs to be overhauled. Lloyd Cushenberry at 56 would be a nice pick. How about Nick Harris the center from Washington in the 3rd round? Miami should leave this draft with a minimum of 2 offensive lineman.
