Good luck. That’s all I have to say in regard to the 2023 NFL Draft. Can we just acknowledge the truth for a second? It’s a bad draft and everybody knows it. Draft season will pick up right after the Super Bowl and I just want to prepare you for all the lies that are about to come.
In my opinion, there’s no such thing as a good draft if there is uncertainty at the quarterback position. Those are the guys that can really change the outlook of a franchise overnight. The truth of the matter is, there isn’t a single grand slam quarterback prospect in this draft that carries zero red flags.
Bryce Young is very good and is at the top of my list. However, I’ve comped him to Tua in the past and we’ve seen the irrational hatred thrown Tua’s way. If Young is over 6-foot, I’ll be shocked. There’s past injury stuff to worry about too. Terrific player but certainly not the prototype. The questions are warranted.
Beyond that you’re sending prayers out. Prayers that will cost you your job if you get them wrong. I have a second round capable starter grade on CJ Stroud. We know he’s going in the top five. Will Levis and Anthony Richardson appear to both be wildcards. At least one of them is going to break someone’s heart. The 2024 NFL Draft has much better quarterbacks in the mix.
Outside of that, there are two elite defensive players (Will Anderson & Jalen Carter). Outside of that, what else does it really have? I just ripped on that idiot Daniel Jeremiah for incorrectly mocking Devon Witherspoon inside the top ten.
Think about the rest of the draft. You really going to turn the card in for Tyree Wilson who couldn’t make it at Texas A&M? You really going to turn the card in for 24-year-old Keion White who was an Old Dominion tight end? This draft is filled with rat traps. The smart will survive.
The ultimate draft strategy for this year looks something like this. Get out of the first round entirely. Circle 6 names you would like to have in the second round. Offensive linemen and corners are the premium guys to target in this draft. Can I come out of it with O’Cyrus Torrence and Kelee Ringo in round two? Otherwise, send all of your picks towards 2024. It’s a WAY better class in every sense of the word.
