2023 Fantasy Rookie TE Rankings

We’re in the home stretch! The quarterbacks, running backs, and wide receivers have all been reviewed. We now shift our focus toward the 2023 fantasy rookie TE rankings. I’m not sure how many quality names are on this list but the tight end class was deeper than it normally is so we’re giving you ten names to use. Let’s get right to the list!

10: Will Mallory (Colts)

It’s been a revolving door at the tight end position for the Colts. The Mo Alie-Cox breakout season is never going to happen at this point. Kylen Granson stinks and was a waste of a pick the second Chris Ballard turned the card in there. It’s a matter of if you’re a Jelani Woods believer and if you think Will Mallory can overtake him. I’d lean no but it’s enough to crack the top 10.

9: Zack Kuntz (Jets)

The Jets have options at the tight end position but would you consider any of them roadblocks? Jeremy Ruckert stinks as I said he would. Tyler Conklin and CJ Uzomah are as average as it gets. This one is going to take some time but Kuntz has a real opportunity to seize the job down the line. 6-foot-8 and runs a 4.55. I like his odds.

8: Cameron Latu (49ers)

It feels like Cameron Latu will be another wasted pick by the 49ers. They take one every draft that ends up doing nothing. Overcoming George Kittle also feels impossible. The only positive here is that it’s a Kyle Shanahan led team. Good enough for 8th on the list.

7: Luke Schoonmaker (Cowboys)

Dalton Schultz is gone. I guess that’s a positive. Personally, I think Dallas totally reached here with Luke Schoonmaker. That being said, it’s a great landing spot with no competition on the roster.

6: Brenton Strange (Jaguars)

Another reach but at least this one has some potential. The only problem is there is way more competition on the roster with Evan Engram. Probably a dynasty only play. The positive is that attaching yourself to Trevor Lawrence is a great thing right now for fantasy.

5: Sam LaPorta (Lions)

Sam LaPorta is expected to be the next Lions tight end. The Lions apparently have this weird thing where they overdraft tight ends from Iowa only to move on for a fraction of the original draft cost later. After this piss poor draft by Detroit, it just puts a stench on everything they were building toward.

4: Luke Musgrave (Packers)

Not going to lie, I thought about putting Luke Musgrave first. Then I remembered that Jordan Love is going to be the quarterback this year and Green Bay drafted a second tight end in the third round. Double tight end teams for fantasy is something I avoid at all costs. Musgrave is also an injury risk which has to be factored in too. Somehow a guy that should have value maybe doesn’t. Tricky one!

3: Michael Mayer (Raiders)

The Darren Waller exit opens up the starting spot. Those who frequently read this site know how I feel about Michael Mayer. However, the positive is that it seems as though Vegas is all in here and will give Mayer the opportunity to get his looks. Having Davante Adams on your side stealing attention away is a positive too.

2: Darnell Washington (Steelers)

The landing spot stinks from a fantasy perspective. Playing second fiddle to Pat Freiermuth limits the upside. However, I have Washington as the clear cut top talent at the position in this class. I have no idea what you do here. A lot of which depends on your league rules.

1: Dalton Kincaid (Bills)

I hated the pick in real life and very much do not consider Dalton Kincaid to be a first round talent. Fantasy wise? How can you complain?

Josh Allen is about as good as it gets. Dawson Knox is worrisome but Kincaid is basically going to be a glorified receiver. The Bills really don’t have much outside of Stefon Diggs and Gabe Davis. I’d expect Kincaid to get plenty of looks in a high powered offense.
