2021 NFL Draft War Room: Atlanta Falcons

The 2021 NFL Draft start with the Atlanta Falcons. With quarterbacks scheduled to go off the board with the first three selections, the dirty birds have a decision to make. Is it quarterback or something else? Will Atlanta consider moving down for another quarterback-hungry team? Things get interesting here with the war room series. Let’s get right to it.

Round 1: No. 4 overall
Round 2: No. 35
Round 3: No. 68
Round 4: No. 108
Round 5: Nos. 148, 182, 183
Round 6: Nos. 187, 219

Some extra picks in the 5th and 6th round help for a team that has a bit of a depleted roster. Otherwise, Atlanta should really considering moving back IF they don’t take a quarterback. It’s a roster that needs help.

Nevertheless, Justin Fields has to be the pick. I wrote a post on this already but it needs to be reiterated. The Falcons CANNOT pass on Fields. Can’t do it. Whatever fascination the Falcons have with Matt Ryan needs to end. This window is over. Atlanta, sorry not sorry, you’re not winning a title with Ryan under center anymore.

Fields is a Georgia kid that could revitalize a fan base that needs it. Have Fields sit for a year and then deal Ryan for picks next offseason. Secure your quarterback of the future. You never know when you’re going to pick this high again.

How about a pass rusher in round two? Vic Beasley didn’t work out. Neither did Takk McKinley. Jayson Oweh at Penn State could be an option. Oweh has the size and athletic skill set to fortify the edge for the Falcons. Kam wrote his profile up not long ago so you can get an idea of what Atlanta might be getting.

Mike Davis is the starting running back for the Falcons right now. Trey Sermon could be a name that makes some sense. Sermon balled out for Ohio State down the stretch really raising his stock. Sermon could take that backfield over eventually and is big enough to handle a workhorse role.
