Zach Wilson Is Reluctant To Start Again

New York Jets quarterback Zach Wilson has had an absolute rollercoaster of a season.

He has been benched so many times this past year and it would be hard for anyone to have confidence in themselves after everything that happened. It’s gotten so bad that Tim Boyle started over Wilson two weeks ago.

Since his confidence is probably shot, and Robert Saleh isn’t the best head coach, news broke that Zach Wilson is “reluctant to stepping back in” as the team’s starter, per The Athletic‘s Dianna Russini and Zack Rosenblatt.

Tim Boyle and Trevor Siemian combined for just 197 passing yards and an interception Sunday, as the Jets lost to the Atlanta Falcons 13-8. It’s clear that no quarterback on this roster can get the job done and this offense will continue to suffer because of it; Robert Saleh was asked about getting Wilson back in after the loss and he said that Zach is “always in consideration.”

Robert Saleh really has no clue how to handle this situation and even tried giving Wilson a false sense of hope when he talked about still believing in his abilities despite benching him. To be fair, anyone who was given this quarterback room would struggle and it just goes to show how vital Aaron Rodgers was to this team.

He was their lifeline and is essentially the reason that multiple members of the Jets staff still have a job.

With how poorly this season’s gone, Zach Wilson seems to be checked out, and rightfully so. Pretty much everyone has given up on him and so many people were excited to see him get benched for Aaron Rodgers. Ownership and the front office admitted they lost faith in him without explicitly saying it the minute Aaron Rodgers became a Jet.

This team should’ve cut ties with him but they are too afraid to admit that their 2021 No. 2 pick was a bad one. We’ve seen this before, ownership doesn’t want to take the blame for making a bad decision and they are willing to sink with the ship.

They should’ve put their ego aside a while ago and just taken the loss on Wilson. Instead, it’s been another season of misery with a sense of hope that Aaron Rodgers will come back and just magically fix everything.
