Robert Saleh Believes In Zach Wilson Despite Benching Him
New York Jets quarterback Zach Wilson was benched again after another rough outing against the Buffalo Bills Sunday. He was benched in the third quarter so backup QB Tim Boyle could get some playing time. Despite all of Zach Wilson’s struggles in his young career, Robert Saleh won’t say that his career is a failure.
“I wouldn’t look at it as a failure, I would look at it as more of a series of unfortunate events,” Saleh said. “But I stand strong on the belief that Zach’s gonna have a really good career in this league. He’s got a tremendous work ethic, he’s gotten a lot better over the course of the last year, he definitely has the arm talent, he just turned 24.
“He’s got a positive outlook and he just needs to continue to focus on his game and find ways to get better and continue to learn about fronts and coverages and how to play the game a little bit faster so I still believe he’s gonna have a good career.”
Zach Wilson took accountability for the tough loss and understands that at a certain point, change is necessary.
“It’s frustrating, but I get it,” Wilson said. “When things aren’t getting done, changes have to be made, I understand that. You have to score, you have to be in games. When it’s consecutive weeks of just doing nothing on offense, it can’t happen.
“The offense as a whole is an issue. We need to find a way to get better and take accountability, and that starts with me.“
We have heard this plenty of times from Zach Wilson and at some point, it had to end. Although he isn’t wrong about the problem being a team issue, he is one of the weakest links.
Saleh is correct in saying that it is easy to point fingers at the quarterback, but at a certain point, it is true. How much longer will Jets fans have to watch this?
Obviously, Aaron Rodgers going down ruined their season, but there isn’t anyone better than Wilson to replace him? It is becoming hard to believe that people still believe in Wilson.
It appears Saleh is trying to do his best to keep the locker room together. There is no way he actually believes that Wilson has a future with the team or will be great somewhere else.
At this point, Jets fans better hope that Rodgers comes back healthy for next year. He is their only hope as this team desperately needs his experience and leadership. The Jets as a whole need to have a great offseason and ship Zach Wilson off for good.
