Robert Saleh Sucks, The Jets Need To Fire Him
Robert Saleh is easily one of the worst head coaches in the NFL and it seems like nobody cares. Saleh continues to show us over and over again that he sucks. When is someone going to talk about it? When is someone simply going to acknowledge that this guy brings nothing to the table other than being a meathead?
A: Let’s start with this. Saleh is a defensive guy that specializes on the defensive line. Riddle me this. If he’s so brilliant why does his team stink at stopping the run? I’ve never head of a smart defensive line guru that can’t stop the run.
The Jets give up 138.4 rushing yards per game which ranks 31st in the league only ahead of Denver. It’s not like this front has zero talent. Quinnen Williams is a stud. Ditto CJ Mosely at linebacker. How much money and draft equity has this team spent on the defensive front? How are you this bad at stopping the run. This is what you pride yourself on being a guru in. What a joke.
If Jim Schwartz ran this defense, I can promise you the Jets would stop the run better than this. That’s a guarantee. Schwartz is a real run game guru as his Browns unit (that he took over this year) rank 7th in rushing yards allowed per game.
If Saleh is so brilliant, shouldn’t his defense be way better than a guy who multiple teams fired?
Show me what he’s doing from a schematic standpoint that’s breaking barriers. Show it to me. We already know his secondary isn’t advanced. It’s that same Seattle look from Pete Carroll that Dan Quinn, Gus Bradley, and Saleh all use. Nothing about it is overly complex.
Congratulations on getting your guys to get up the field and attack the quarterback. Congratulations on being Jim Tomsula except better looking. Congratulations for being a defensive line meathead that’s really not even talented at what he does. Yeah, this guy is brilliant.
B: Saleh continues to show an absence of leadership over and over again. Saleh continues to handle the Zach Wilson as poorly as it gets and the only thing it’s proved is that he’s a terrible leader.
Let’s break down two things that you absolutely need to know.
A few days ago, Saleh had this line that should bother everyone. It should bother everyone because what he did is basically insult every team reporter’s intelligence. They just don’t know any better and didn’t call him out for it. I’ll share the line below.
Saleh said “empathetically” he’s aware the system the Jets are running was built for Rodgers and not Wilson so “it’s hard to adjust.” The comment sounded more appropriate for a September media call than a November one, when Wilson’s body of work now suggests he may need more than just a system tweak.
You do get why this is insane, right? If not, let me help you.
The Jets offensive coordinator is Nathaniel Hackett. His offensive scheme is based on the principles of his father, Paul Hackett. With the 49ers, Hackett was the quarterback’s coach and offensive coordinator under Bill Walsh. What Hackett is running comes from principles of the West Coast offense, which is based on a quick rhythm and timing passing attack.
The idea that the West Coast offense is catered to Rodgers and not Wilson is a big pile of BS and a total lie. The West Coast system is about as quarterback-friendly as it gets. Also, even if the system needs to be tweaked, why aren’t you helping your quarterback? Are you really going to sit here and acknowledge that you haven’t done anything from a play-calling standpoint to figure out what Wilson can and can’t do?
That’s bad and egregious coaching anyway you slice it. It’s also about as ignorant as it gets from a media perspective. They’re just not smart enough to sniff out the poo poo platter of nonsense. The Jets are the 32nd-ranked team in terms of converting on third down (25%). They’re 32nd in red zone offense. That’s coaching regardless of who is out there on the field.
If Wilson can’t run the system, what system can he run? Why haven’t you altered it to fix his strengths? Is it because you have absolutely no idea what you’re doing? When people tell you who they are, believe them. All this guy does every time he opens his mouth is continue to prove that he doesn’t know what he’s doing.
I’m not done. Did you also see the other day when he took his 5th amendment right when also speaking about Wilson?
“I don’t know,” Saleh said shakily when Michael Kay asked him why he wouldn’t bench Wilson. “You got — it’s something I’m gonna plead the fifth on all this one. … They’re valid questions, and I know from fans who are passionate all having the same question, I respect it greatly. But I’ve got to look at it from a global standpoint, and just see where we are, and look at the all-22 the best I can, and make the decision best as possible.”
Is this guy serious? Is this what leaders do?
What people need to understand is that when the leader of the program speaks to the media, he’s also speaking to the players in the room. It’s one thing for Wilson to struggle. It’s another when the head coach can’t come up with a better answer other than pleading the 5th. That’s a joke and all it proves is that the Jets have an absence of leadership.
Explain to me why this guy still has a job. Explain to me what this guy does well. Even his answer about why they cut Michael Carter was ridiculous.
The Jets have the wrong guy on the sidelines. They have the wrong guy in the press box too.
