Why Hiring Tom Telesco Is An Insult To The Memory Of Al Davis

When George Steinbrenner died, the Yankees struggled to build a team in his likeness. When George was alive, the Yankees won the World Series for what seemed like every single year. Since his death, the Yankees haven’t won one and are still struggling to build a championship team that he would be proud of. The Raiders aren’t much different except for the fact that hiring Tom Telesco is a complete slap in the face to Al Davis. There really is no other way to interpret it.

Watch the video and notice something. Did you notice how I said the Raiders only hired him because he had experience and was just kinda there?

A few days later, Mark Davis literally admitted that experience was the number one factor in the decision. He may as well have pissed on his father’s grave with this move.

Forget about the fact that they only interviewed three people for the job.

Forget about the fact that Telesco and Brandon Staley were fired by the Chargers immediately after LA lost to the Raiders 63-21. Then Davis decided he wanted that personnel guy.

Forget about the fact that Telesco just took Quentin Johnston one pick ahead of Zay Flowers.

What should be talked about is that Telesco’s entire resume of work is the antithesis of everything Al Davis believed in with the Raiders.

I understand that Antonio Pierce thinks he understands the Raider way, but he really doesn’t. The only thing the Raiders have done since he’s been alive is lose. Clearly, son Mark doesn’t understand either.

Al Davis believed in many things but drafting small school players was not one of them. Telesco essentially gets horny off doing so. When Telesco drafted Nassir Adderley out of Deleware in the second round I’m pretty positive that Al would have choked him. Adderley, of course, retired before even making it to his second contract.

Ten years on the job.

Three playoff appearances.

Two Pro Bowlers drafted after the first round.

How about when he took Trey Pipkins out of Sioux Falls right after Adderley? A small school offensive lineman who benched 16 reps at the combine. Do you think Al would have castrated Telesco for that pick?

Hiring Telesco is a complete lack of respect and a slap in the face for the franchise Al Davis put on the map. It’s a complete organizational failure to truly understand the Raider way. The best part is Telesco will now be tasked to navigate a division that features Andy Reid, Sean Payton, and Jim Harbaugh.

Good luck.
