Top PGs: Ranking Process

The way we figured out these rankings were decided by the 8 of us that wanted to participate. We’d rank the top PGs by number. I then added all the rankings and divided by 8 to find the average. Next, I put the players in order by lowest to highest rank to decide who’s the best and whatnot. For example: if the rankings were 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 for one player by all of us, the average would be 4.5, if someone had an average of 4, they would be rated higher than this certain player. If someone wasn’t ranked in the top 20, he was automatically ranked at 21 for that blogger. This seems like a lot, but it’s VERY important for one of the rankings, so let’s get into it.

20. Zach Lavine

Average Ranking: 18.75. Starting out our top PGs list. There was debate amongst us if LaVine was actually a PG, but we rolled with it and this is where he’s at. If you think this is suspect, you won’t after reading the others. The Bulls will be fighting for a playoff spot this year. Lavine could still be playing PG this year or it might go to Colby White at PG, but right now, we went with this.

19. Malcolm Brogdon

Average Ranking: 17.87. another one of those where we had a debate if he actually played PG. As for myself, I didn’t count him as a PG, but he’s still a great player as it is. Now on the Pacers, the Pacers are a lock for the playoffs and their backcourt with him and Victor Oladipo will be exciting to watch.

18. Derrick White

Average Ranking: 17.625. I gotta tell ya, I was excited that Derrick White was getting love here as a Spurs fan. Derrick White was well known to Spurs fans but really made a name for himself during the 7-game playoff series with the Denver Nuggets last year. He’ll look to take another step in his game as the Spurs fight for a playoff spot this year.

17. Patrick Beverley

Average Ranking: 17.375. Patrick Beverley is one of the best defensive guards, no, defensive players in the game today. He’s a pest that guards hate to see and will haunt you all day. He looks like the guy that wore Black AF1s in a pickup game outside. If he could score a little better, he’d be higher on the list. He will try to help the Los Angeles Clippers win a title this year.

16. Dejounte Murray

Average Ranking: 16.625. I love the Spurs love. If you’re wondering why he’s even here, don’t sleep. Murray was going to make a strong impression last year with his defense and hopefully a step forward in his offense. He, unfortunately, got injured last year in the preseason, so he was out the entire year. He’s another crucial piece to the Spurs success in their fight for a playoff berth

15. Trae Young

Average Ranking: 14.875. Rounding out at 15 is Trae Young in our top PGs list. Too early to be a top 15 guard? Vendetta doesn’t think so. After a slowish start last year (I mean he was still a rookie) Trae Young BALLED out the second half of the season. If Luka Doncic wasn’t consistent the whole year in his numbers, Young would have won. He brings excitement to this Atlanta Hawks team. I think the Hawks are long shots for a playoff berth for at least another year or two but they could make some noise and get close.

14. John Wall

Average Ranking: 14.75. Yes, he’s been injured, but let’s not forget that Wall was a certified hooper when he’s healthy. After missing most of last season and confirmed to miss this year, people forget how good he actually is. But for right now, he’s still top 15, if he finally comes back next year, he could be higher.

13. Chris Paul

Average Ranking: 13.625. I want everyone to remember that this isn’t a legacy type of deal, this is going into the season based on last year. Chris Paul hasn’t been all that good recently. It doesn’t help that his usage went down playing with Harden. Maybe he can be a top 10 PG again this season with the Thunder, I’m not keeping my hope high and neither should the Thunder for a playoff spot

12. Kyle Lowry

Average Ranking: 12.5. Full disclosure, Garrett Burroughs HATES this ranking. He feels like he’s entirely too low. I think this is a good range for Lowry. Lowry has been always inconsistent, if he can prove success without Demar DeRozan and Kawhi Leonard, he’s top’s top 10. I think the Raptors are a lock for the playoffs but are on the lower end of the seeding

11. D’Angelo Russell

Average Ranking: 11.625. Some of y’all probably think he’s top 10 already but for Vendetta, he’s just outside of it. He’s looking to continue to improve after his first All-Star appearance. With Klay out and Steph Curry along his side, DLo is due for a big year. He’ll need to have a big year for the Warriors get to the playoffs, I currently have them at 7th but it’ll be interesting to see how it pans out.

10. De’Aaron Fox

Average Ranking: 9. De’Arron Fox. Here’s where the fun begins. This is where we get into our top 10 in our top PGs list. If you don’t think Fox is top 10, you haven’t been watching enough basketball. Fox is a STUD. His upside is through the roof, he is only going to go up from here. Because of Fox, the Kings have a chance to make the jump into the playoffs this year and it’s going to be close. Fun fact: I predicted the Kings would just miss the playoffs last year, it’s a shame that the West got so good so fast.

9. Jrue Holiday

Average Ranking: 8.375. REALLY?! Yes really, watch basketball. Jrue is probably the most underrated PG in the game, next to who’s on our list next. Jrue has always been overshadowed by Anthony Davis, he’s never gotten the recognition he rightfully deserves, and still might not with the hype around Zion Williamson. The Pelicans are fighting for a playoff spot with their young core they got from the Anthony Davis trade, let’s see if they can do it.

8. Jamal Murray

Average Ranking: 8.375. Like Jrue, Jamal Murray is immensely underrated. Murray is getting more recognition after an impressive showing in the playoffs the last two years. He’s looking to make the top 5 PG rankings next year. The Nuggets will be looking to try to win a championship with Murray and Jokic at the helm, get excited Nuggets fans, it may be your time.

7. Ben Simmons

Average Ranking: 8. Let me just say, to be rated this high without a consistent jump shot is crazy impressive. After hitting a 3 in preseason, there’s hope for Simmons yet for his quest. He has everything else but that, if he can do that, he’s easily top 5 next year. The 76ers are looking to try to win a Championship with their all-defensive team, although the lack of shooting may kill them, they still have a decent chance to go to the finals.

6. Russell Westbrook

Average Ranking: 7.5. LOOK OKAY I KNOW, I DO NOT AGREE AT ALL. Remember when I explained the ranking process, this is what happened. 5 of the 8 had Russ top 5 no question, one had him in top 10, one had him top 15, the last one? Not even top 20. This was a heated topic within our website group chat, the person leading the charge against Westbrook not being top 20, and will die on this hill is the boss, Trey Daubert (Twitter is @treydaubert). If you want to argue with him, be my guest, he’s very adamant about this so good luck.

5. Mike Conley

Average Ranking: 7.375. This may be a little high for some of y’all, but you don’t understand. Mike Conley is silently one of the best PGs in the game. At Vendetta, he’s rated at 5 for our top PGs list. The Jazz did right by getting him in the offseason. The Jazz are looking to try to contend for a championship this year in the Wild Wild West.

4. Kemba Walker

Average Ranking: 5.875. Once again, some of y’all may not be ready for this conversation, but Cardiac Kemba is the real deal. He might not be next year but we’ll see. He was the only thing keeping the Charlotte Hornets relevant. Now on the Celtics, the C’s are a playoff lock this year.

3. Kyrie Irving

Average Ranking: 2.625. Okay, we’re done with the controversy, it’s smooth sailing from here for out top PGs list. There’s no question that Kyrie is a top 3 PG in the game. His numbers dipped last year but look for him to bounce back this year. Now on the Nets, the Nets are a playoff lock this year and championship contenders next year when they get Kevin Durant back.

2. Damian Lillard

Average Ranking: 2.375. Was there any doubt? Dame Dolla has been at least top 5 PG for a while now. If him being a top 3 PG bothers you, then just stop watching basketball, this shouldn’t even be doubted in the slightest. The Blazers are a playoff lock this season, after that, it’s up to them to see how far they can go. Their team is great and can bang with anyone, it’s just up to them.

1. Steph Curry

Average Ranking: 1.375. Unequivocally. Steph Curry finishes out our top PGs list. I know this one was surprising, the greatest shooter of all-time, and already top 2 PG of all-time, this was a shock. Steph is just that good and should be the number 1 PG for years to come. The Warriors, after losing their entire bench, and having Klay Thompson be out half the year, are going to struggle to get a playoff berth. I think they do, but I wouldn’t say they are a lock.

This has been fun and was great to do. We will do every position next, so stay tuned. Contact us with ANY argument @media_vendetta, or who I personally chose @BALLBUSTERSVSM.
