USA Wrestling Trials Seeds & Picks for 125kg
The USA Wrestling Olympic Trials are in less than 24 hours, and I have analyzed the seeds and am giving my picks for the 125kg weight class. This weight class has nine competitors all looking for a shot to go to Tokyo in summer 2021.
Nick Gwiazdowski is the number one seed and the favorite in my mind. Gwiazdowski has two bronze medals in World Championships and two golds in the Pan American Games.
The Dark Horse(s)
The top three guys at this weight are in a league of their own, but Anthony Nelson has a shot to make the semifinals. The fifth seeded guy at this weight class will get Dom Bradley in the round of eight. It is hard to consider anyone in this dark horse category but if anyone can do it, Nelson is the guy.
Best Matches to Watch
We have seen Gable dominate Parris in the past, but he did close the gap in their NCAA finals match. Having that semifinal as a continuation of their rivalry will be good theatre. Who knows, the more you wrestle the same guy the more you get a feel for what to do to win.
Nick Gwiazdowski is one of the guys who changed the game forever. His athleticism and scoring frequency altered the state of heavyweight wrestling forever. The recurring theme throughout these recaps has been my support of the New York boys. Gable vs Gwiz could go down in the history books as one of the best series in US wrestling, but I think I gotta go with Gwiz over Steveson in match 3.
