Triston Casas Needs An Extension NOW!
Chaim Bloom is gone and Red Sox fans should maybe be worried that they’re on the verge of making another mediocre hire. Regardless of who the Sox hire (despite the fact that they won’t find someone better than me) the first order of business when taking over the job should be taking care of Triston Casas. The Sox young first baseman needs a contract extension now.
There is a reason why the Braves are so good. Alex Anthopoulos seems like the only guy that actually does his job. His entire team is locked up on hometown extensions. The rest of the league is very capable of doing the same. They’re either not good at it or too lazy to get it done in a timely manner. The Sox haven’t gotten an extension done with a franchise icon in a timely manner ever. If the Sox want to join the elite again, this is the first step that needs to happen.
There is nothing more that needs to be seen with Casas. He’s going to be a stud and arguably already is. During the 2023 season, Casas slashed .263/.367/.490 across 132 games. He’s also hit 24 homers and posted an OPS+ of 129. Keep in mind, Casas was terrible during the entire first half of his rookie season. The second half he hit .317. Casas will head into his age 24 season next year.
A smart person gets this deal done this offseason. Really there shouldn’t be any excuse for it. Casas should wear a Red Sox uniform for life and is on a trajectory to become one of the best first basemen in the sport. Get it done and figure it out. OR hire me and I’ll get it done. Either way, this shouldn’t be hard. Everything I just said, ditto for Brayan Bello please too.
