Tom Telesco Apologized To The Team For Signing JC Jackson
I can’t believe I’m actually typing this right now but today I present to you a story about an NFL general manager that was actually accountable for one of his mistakes. The Chargers gave JC Jackson $82.5 million during the 2022 NFL Free Agency window. Chargers general manager Tom Telesco was totally accountable and apologized to his entire team for making a mistake.
“Telesco told the group that signing Jackson was a mistake, according to multiple team sources. He apologized for continuing to give Jackson opportunities, despite Jackson routinely showing that he wasn’t as committed as the rest of the team while being one of the Chargers’ highest paid players.”
Telesco called the move a “swing and a miss.”
Just so this is on record, it should be known that Trey wouldn’t have made this mistake. Teams make this mistake over and over again. Bill Belichick knows how to coach defensive backs. Stop overpaying his trash and wondering why you didn’t get the goods. I said exactly that when Jackson signed.
Still, it’s hard to not respect this move by Telesco. Most general managers would have run and hid instead. To his credit, he’s drafted a lot of really good players. I just hope that during that meeting one of the players would have thrown Brandon Staley under the bus. I guess we can’t have it all!
Jackson is no longer on the team and has since been traded back to the Patriots. Jackson ended up playing just seven games for the Chargers and ended up cashing in on $38.5 million from the team. You can’t chalk it up any worse. This is absolutely one of the worst free agent signings in Chargers’ team history.
