JC Jackson traded back to New England Patriots

Chargers cornerback JC Jackson is headed back to where he started his NFL career. After the New England Patriots’ newly-drafted cornerback Christian Gonzalez suffered a season-ending injury, the Patriots traded for Jackson in exchange for a swap of late-round picks. Ian Rapoport first reported Wednesday.

Jackson’s Chargers campaign has gotten off to a rocky start. Playing only five games in 2022, Jackson seems to have lost a step in his game. Becoming a healthy scratch Week 3 against the Minnesota Vikings.

“I don’t know, what else do they expect me to do?” Jackson told NFL.com last week. “I told coach (Brandon Staley) what else do you expect me to do? I’ve been doing everything. I came back from my injury pretty fast. I’ve been putting in extra work after practice, even in meeting rooms. The DBs every Friday we all meet to do extra film and being a good teammate, so I don’t know what it is. I’m still kind of confused and still don’t have answers to why I’m getting treated like this.”

Before Jackson signed with the Chargers, he became known as one of the best corners in the NFL, but as the injury bug stung more and more, his play declined. But now, Jackson is heading back to the team that drafted him.

Jackson will add a familiar face to a Patriots team that has struggled this season. With a 1-3 record, the Patriots’ injury woes aren’t helping, especially on the defensive end with Gonzalez and Matt Judon expected to miss significant time. Jackson, who already knows the Patriots’ defensive system, will make an instant impact on their injury-rattled defense.
