It’s Time To Pick Up Jackson Blake In Fantasy Hockey

It turns out I left out one major detail in my last fantasy hockey post in the aftermath of the Mikko Rantanen trade. Now that we’ve seen what the Hurricanes look like with Rantanen, there is one thing that really stands out to me. It’s time to pick up Jackson Blake in fantasy hockey!

When the Rantanen trade first went down, we weren’t 100% positive how the lines would shake out. Well, now we do and fantasy managers need to act before it’s too late. Blake, the rookie out of North Dakota, is skating five on five with Rantanen and Sebastian Aho on the top line. He’s also on the first powerplay unit that also includes Seth Jarvis and Brent Burns. That should tell you how the Canes feel about their rookie winger.

Blake, 21, was the 109th overall pick in the 2021 NHL Draft. I assume he only dropped that far because he has pimples all over his face and teams thought he couldn’t play because of it. Otherwise, I have no idea how this guy fell that far in the draft. Eye test wise, this dude is an absolute stud in the making.

18 points in 53 games might not be earth shattering numbers but if you watch the games, you can tell he’s slowly turning the corner and becoming a real player. His ice time has been steadily increasing throughout the season too. The last game against LA, Blake was at over 22 minutes on the ice. He’s averaging 12 minutes per night after being deployed in a small role to start the season.

Then is then. Now is now. In there here and now, it’s time to pounce because the breakout is coming. My eyes rarely deceive me. All I know is this dude can play and the recent deployment is a strong indication of how Carolina feels about their young prospect.

I picked up Blake a few days ago but good news is that he’s owned in roughly 1% of ESPN fantasy leagues right now. If you have an open roster spot, pick up Blake and ride the wave. When he breaks out later this season, make sure to thank me because it’s coming.
