Joe Milton got one start to close the year and looked like a freak show. Albeit, it was against a Bills team that wasn’t trying that played their backups. Regardless, Milton looked like a real player to close out the regular season.
Given the fact that the quarterback class for the 2025 NFL Draft doesn’t appear to be a strong one, noise has surfaced that teams could be calling to try to land Milton from the Patriots.
Here are two excerpts. One from Brian Baldinger. Another from Patriots beat writer Greg Bedard.
“After watching some of these guys at the Senior Bowl, I might take Joe Milton as my very best option if I’m looking for a quarterback right now,” Baldinger said in a video evaluating Milton’s performance against Buffalo. “You might just be doing some backflips if you pull the string and you negotiate with the Patriots for his services.”
“Again, I’m not saying he’s on the block right now, but the Patriots will likely consider it when everything settles with the front office and coaching staff,” Bedard wrote in his latest column. “Why would they do it?
“Mostly because the timing could be right, with this QB class being weak. The Senior Bowl QBs were very underwhelming. And the Patriots could be striking while the iron is hot with Milton’s good film in the season finale.”
Milton, 24, went 22/29 for 241 passing yards, and two total touchdowns during his NFL debut. When you really think about it, are you sure Milton isn’t better than guys like Jaxson Dart, Riley Leonard, and Jalen Milroe? Based on what I saw at the Senior Bowl, pursuing a trade for Milton seems better than overdrafting anyone who isn’t Cam Ward or Shedeur Sanders. Given that the Patriots have Drake Maye, selling high on Milton doesn’t seem farfetched.
