Brandin Cooks just tied an NFL record. I’m not sure it’s a record any player wants but it’s a unique one nevertheless. This is now the fourth time Cooks has been traded tying the mark of Eric Dickerson. If you haven’t figured it out by now, Cooks is on the move AGAIN. This time it will be for America’s team.
The former Saints, Patriots, Rams, and Texans receiver has been traded to the Dallas Cowboys. Adam Schefter of ESPN was the first to report the news:
Some other details that should be included. Cooks is due $18 million salary in 2023. All of which is guaranteed. The Texans are taking on $6 million as part of the deal. Dallas does have two 5th round picks. One of which is a comp pick for losing Randy Gregory. Dallas is sending the earlier 5th round pick of the two. Cooks also has another year on the contract but there is an easy out for the Cowboys assuming they do go that route.
This trade is all about trying to replace Amari Cooper. It was a mistake at the time and Jerry has now acknowledged he screwed up. Michael Gallup is a really nice player but he wasn’t enough to properly replacing losing a guy like Cooper. The only problem is Dallas just acquired a worse player to try to fill the void.
In 2022, Cooks notched 57 receptions for 699 yards and three scores in 13 games with Houston. The good news for Cooks is that he will get a quarterback upgrade going from Davis Mills to Dak Prescott.
