Releasing Amari Cooper Would Be An Idiotic Mistake By Dallas

The Cincinnati Bengals just made the Super Bowl with a bad offensive line, a coach we’re unsure about, and an okay defense. The LA Rams have Cooper Kupp, Robert Woods, Van Jefferson, just drafted two receivers, and made it a priority to bring Odell Beckham to town. It’s a quarterback and weapons league. Those are the rules now in the modern NFL.

When I saw the news earlier today that the Cowboys were strongly leaning towards releasing Amari Cooper, it once again reminded me that Jerry Jones can’t help himself. He has to screw things up at all costs. Releasing Cooper would be an idiotic mistake by the Cowboys and it can’t be described any other way.

What’s the plan here? I love CeeDee Lamb but we should also be honest. He had some inexcusable drops last year and would prefer him paired with another stud. Cooper is still the focal point for defenses to hone in on. Michael Gallup and Dalton Schultz are also pending free agents. What’s your plan here? Cedrick Wilson?

Nobody wants to hear this but Carson Wentz remains the best and most talented quarterback from that 2016 NFL Draft. Wide receivers MATTER in the modern NFL. Dak Prescott wouldn’t have put up the numbers Wentz did this past year throwing to TY Hilton and Jack Doyle. It’s just a fact.

The truth of the matter is, Dak Prescott is a different quarterback with and without Amari Cooper. Prior to the Cooper trade, Prescott was being compared to Tim Tebow (that actually happened even if that’s a bit extreme). After the Cooper trade, Dak is somehow worth $160 million.

The numbers don’t really lie. The eye test also doesn’t lie. It wasn’t hard to see the impact Cooper made on the Dallas offense. There was a game against the Jets I’ll never forget. Cooper got hurt really early in the game. Dak looked lost. There was NO question Sam Darnold was the better quarterback on the field guiding far superior talent to a win. The eye test confirms the numbers to back this graphic up.

The pure stats for Cooper don’t really tell the story. Corners respect him. Cooper had one of the highest cushion numbers in the NFL. He also averaged 2.5 yards of separation per route run despite commanding the opposing number one corner. It’s not a perfect stat but there’s no question Cooper is a route running magician.

This move doesn’t make sense. Cooper’s contract isn’t even outrageous given the importance of the position. It screams Jerry Jones BS to me. How come we’re not having discussions of moving Ezekiel Elliott? Did anybody watch the Cowboys last year? Tony Pollard is just better and it’s not close anymore.

We do realize this is the same team that ripped the Raiders for giving up Cooper, right?

There is no reason to cut Amari Cooper. None. It screams dumb Cowboys. I don’t even have any more words for it. In fact, would it be a surprise to see Cooper land an even bigger contract in free agency?
