All of this to pay for the Pat McAfee Show. Was it really worth it? Time will tell. All we know is that Monday Night Football will never be the same. Suzy Kolber took to social media today and announced that she had been fired and was part of the ESPN layoffs. It sounds like only more are on the way too.
Today I join the many hard-working colleagues who have been laid off.

Heartbreaking-but 27 years at ESPN was a good run.
So grateful for a 38 yr career!
Longevity for a woman in this business is something I’m especially proud of.
Next step- a project that gives back. ❤️ pic.twitter.com/URitozP0LQ
“Today I join the many hard-working colleagues who have been laid off,” Kolber said on Twitter. “Heartbreaking — but 27 years at ESPN was a good run .”
Kolber, 59, has hosted Monday Night Football since 2015. 27 years at ESPN in total. 38 years in the business total. Kolber will go down as a legend regardless of what she does next. It appears that her next project will include something that gives back to the community.
It remains to be seen who ESPN will replace her with. Conventional wisdom would suggest Laura Rutledge, the wife of former MLB infielder Josh Rutledge, will take over that role. Rutledge seems to host everything football related that needs a female host these days for ESPN. I would anticipate she gets the nod. I have no inside knowledge on that. Just an educated guess. Maybe Maria Taylor would have been given that role but she works for NBC now soooo.
Kolber, of course, isn’t the only NFL personality that’s leaving ESPN today. Keyshawn Johnson has also been let go. 20 names are expected to come off the board today so we likely haven’t seen the last firing by ESPN today.
