Why Did They Cancel Ted Lasso?

Why Did They Cancel Ted Lasso?

There are so many garbage TV shows that run for ten seasons but somehow we would only get three seasons out of Ted Lasso. It’s a damn shame. I get wanting to go out on a high note but why cancel Ted Lasso this soon given the success the show has? Let’s have a chat about it.

For starters, isn’t this going to affect Apple TV subscribers? Half of the people that have Apple TV probably only have it for Ted Lasso. Other than MLS and the occasional baseball game, what else does Apple TV have right now? Apple TV did tease a potential spinoff of Ted Lasso but that’s because we all know the truth. That streaming service has no real staying power yet without the show.

I can’t express how good of a show this was. Also, the timing of the show’s exit doesn’t really make sense. AFC Richmond qualified for the Champions League and we’re never going to see it. The script writes itself at that point. Are you telling me they couldn’t do an entire season on just their Champions League run?

If you’re looking for an actual answer, Jason Sudeikis said this recently.

“This story is done. It sounds like such a political answer, but it’s the truth. We only conceived these three [seasons], then this thing became this big old thing.”

I just hate that answer. The story isn’t done. AFC Richmond made the Champions League. This story was just getting started. I get that Ted wanted to go home to spend time with his son. The offseason exists. Some would argue that Ted deserves custody of the kid anyway given the fact that the mom is dating the therapist. That has to be a violation!

There’s no guarantee we ever get a season four and if we do it may not include the actual Ted Lasso. Nevertheless, this show was incredible and had so many life lessons included. I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a show to watch.
