Pat McAfee Show Heading To ESPN

Is there a former athlete out there killing it in the media more than Pat McAfee? The former NFL punter made pennies on the dollar during his playing career compared to what he will end up earning in media. The Pat McAfee show is heading to ESPN after a blockbuster deal.

Andrew Marchand of the NY Post was the first to report the news:

“The Pat McAfee Show” is moving to ESPN in a multimillion-dollar deal that he is expected to begin in the fall, The Post has learned.”
In the process, McAfee appears as if he will walk away from his four-year, $120 million contract with FanDuel.

He is in the second year of the agreement.

The amount ESPN will pay McAfee is not fully known yet, but it is more than eight figures per year, according to sources.

The move comes with Disney in the midst of layoffs that will see 7,000 jobs eliminated, including those at ESPN.

McAfee, 36, is expected to appear at Disney Upfronts on Tuesday afternoon, according to a source with knowledge of the situation.

After an illustrious career as an NFL punter, McAfee retired in 2017 and quickly transitioned into the world of media. It’s the best decision he ever made. He’s now making stupid money and apparently will get to bring his entire crew with him. AJ Hawk is specifically mentioned in the post but it sounds as if the entire crew will be along for the ride.

McAfee spent time all over the place whether it be Sirius XM, Barstool, or FanDuel. Who knows how long the ESPN deal will last? What’s clear is that with ESPN layoffs on the way, they really bucked up to make sure they got this deal done. Major changes at ESPN are coming.

The biggest thing is going to be how ESPN censors them. If ESPN tries to alter the show to make it more cookie cutter, this deal will have problems. Based on the history of ESPN, it’s hard to trust that’s not going to be the case.
