Should The Kings Just Dump Pierre-Luc Dubois To Montreal?
Montreal would still take him. It’s the only thought that I can’t get out of my head when it comes to Pierre-Luc Dubois. The guy has proven to be nothing more than a miserable cancer. But… Montreal would definitely still take him. No question about it.
Dubois, 25, was acquired from Winnipeg this offseason but is in the midst of a career worse season. The fit felt skeptical at the time and it predicably hasn’t aged well. The worst part is the Kings feel kinda trapped. Dubois is under contract through the 2030-31 season.
This isn’t working. How is going to last for another 7.5 seasons? Why not just rip the Band-Aid off and admit you got it wrong? What’s going to change? Anze Kopitar is still the first line center and is aging like a fine wine. You’re never moving off of Phillip Danault and the things he can do defensively as a second-line center.
Dubois isn’t a big enough of a rat to be the third line center. He’s also hurting the team and cheating the game in order to try to get points down in the pecking order. The longer this goes on the uglier it’s going to get.
Dubois is a miserable bum. Talented but miserable. Why not just send him to Montreal? It’s the one place the guy wants to play and has a chance to not be a Debby Downer. At this point, the biggest challenge would be convincing Montreal to take the $8.5 million cap hit. The ball is in your court, Rob Blake. There just might be a landing spot to dump the cancer that made your team worse.
