I mean we all knew coming out of college, that Saquon Barkley was a STUD. There was no doubt about it. Coming out of Penn State, everyone knew he was going Number 2 overall after Baker Mayfield in the 2018 NFL Draft. The question was who was gonna go after those two. It’s already time to say that Saquon Barkley will be our Barry Sanders. I know what you’re thinking, “Alex, CHILL BRO, it’s been one season.” OKAY AND? This isn’t even an overreaction, the similarities between the two are eerily similar. Let me explain.
Since Saquon has only played one season, we will use Sanders’ rookie season. Barry Sanders had 1470 rushing yards, 282 receiving yards, which equals out to 1752 yards, and 14 TDs. Stellar for a rookie. Saquon’s numbers though? Barkley had 1307 rushing yards, 721 passing yards, which equals out to 2028 yards total. He had 11 rushing TDs BUT had 4 receiving TDs making his total 15 TDs for the year. So far the numbers are very similar, even though Saquon’s numbers are already better so far.
In Billy May’s voice: BUT WAIT THERE’S MORE. Think about the team Barry Sanders was on. Those horrendous Lions right? Now think, who else do we know is horrendous in the NFL- OH YEAH THAT’S RIGHT, THE GIANTS! Currently, the Giants have very little talent on their team to make a name for themselves. I don’t see that changing anytime soon. Unfortunately for Sanders, his only choice was to retire since the Lions wouldn’t trade him. I really hope this doesn’t happen to Saquon, but I wouldn’t be surprised by how the Giants are operating right now. Saquon Barkley is destined for greatness and I don’t care what you say. It’s not too early, there’s no way you can put up numbers like he has with no team and NOT be great. It’s impossible. Get on the Saquon Barkley train now, he will be an all-time great.
