Amazon Prime Video will be broadcasting NBA games for the first time next season, and they are on the verge of adding one of the most respected play-by-play announcers in the industry.
According to both Ryan Glasspiegel of Front Office Sports and Andrew Marchand of The Athletic, Amazon is nearing a deal to add Kevin Harlan as the No. 2 play-by-play host behind Ian Eagle.
The deal has not been confirmed at the time of this publishing.
According to Marchand, Harlan declined to comment when requested on Tuesday. Marchand also noted that both Eagle and Harlan were expected to continue their NFL and college basketball coverage with CBS.
The streaming service recently announced it was adding 13-year veteran Blake Griffin as well as popular media personality Taylor Rooks and Hall of Famer Dirk Nowitzki.
Harlan, 64, is one of the most electrifying voices in the industry. If you need one example, just check out this call during Furman-Virginia during the NCAA Tournament in 2023:
Or this as a radio broadcaster from last year’s Super Bowl:
Or this incredible studio update after there were technical difficulties during Week 2 of the NFL season this year:
I could go on. The point is that Harlan’s so good at this. Having him and Eagle as a 1-2 punch is spectacular for Amazon, regardless of who the color commentators are–which have to be announced.
