Amazon continues to round out its broadcast roster with its hiring of Blake Griffin. Amazon will be getting broadcasting rights to telecast NBA games beginning in the 2025-2026 NBA season. The new media rights agreement means games will be ABC/ESPN, NBC/Peacock, and Prime Video will air NBA games. Amazon has been building up their staff getting ready for the NBA and they just added another big talent in Blake Griffin.
Andrew Marchand of The Athletic reported the news:
I think Blake Griffin will be amazing behind the desk as an analyst for Prime Video. Also, he will be working alongside NBA legend Dirk Nowitzki and host Taylor Rooks. Griffin had an amazing NBA career. He was the number one pick in the 2009 NBA Draft as a big man from Oklahoma. Furthermore, he was a six-time All-Star, five-time All-NBA, Rookie of the Year, and had a few seasons in the MVP conversation.
His career was filled with countless highlights and a lot of playoff runs. Griffin was one of the most athletic bigs to ever touch the floor. He was a dynamic finisher in his younger years and rounded out his game adding a three-point shot and showing off his playmaking in his later years. Also, Blake Griffin’s legacy is solidified among Gen Z NBA fans as everyone grew up marveling at the high-flying thrills that were the Lob City Clippers.
I have faith that Griffin will succeed as an analyst because of his charisma and skill as an entertainer. A lot of NBA fans’ favorite show is NBA on TNT because of the basketball knowledge on the show but mostly for the entertainment the crew brings to every show. That’s why I think he will be perfect as an analyst because he is also a comedian.
Blake Griffin has acted in many commercials and shows and he has put his time in working on his comedic craft. Griffin frequently performs stand-up comedy and has been in multiple roasts including a Comedy Central Roast. Of course, only time will tell how the Prime Video broadcasts play out during the season. But I think Blake Griffin is a great hire and will transfer seamlessly from NBA star to an NBA analyst.
