Rasmus Hojlund set to become third Manchester United arrival

(Vincent Carchietta-USA TODAY Sports)

Rasmus Hojlund move to Premier League at the finish line

Rasmus Hojlund is all but officially a Manchester United player. The Red Devils and Italian side Atalanta have come to an agreement of £64 million (€70 million). Add-ons included in the deal could make the final amount rise up to £72 million in total. Fabrizio Romano confirmed that the impending move Saturday.

At long last, United will have a striker for the upcoming season. No more stopgaps like Wout Weghorst. No more inconsistency and frustration like Anthony Martial. Erik ten Hag has a very talented 20-year-old who looks like a very good fit into his system. Despite a slow June, the Red Devils have quickly become one of the biggest spenders in Europe for the Summer 2023 transfer window.

That may sound confusing to some, as the Glazers are still the owners at the time of writing. With both Sir Jim Ratcliffe and the Qatari crown waiting on some clarity, the club has still spent very large sums of money. Hojlund joins after United brought in both Andre Onana and Mason Mount earlier this summer. The total spend without add-ons is already roughly £160 million. Some have even reported ten Hag’s interest in another midfielder before the end of the window.

Patience Is Key

However, it’s probably going to have to wait. United have a lot of names that will likely walk out of the door as well. Once some more revenue comes back from sales, it’s possible that the Red Devils add some more reinforcements. They’ve already started with selling Anthony Elanga to Nottingham Forest. Regardless, the three signings now will significantly improve a team that just finished third in the Premier League.

While their squad is certainly not perfect, the three most glaring areas of improvement have been addressed. A modern-day goalkeeper, additional midfielder, and traditional No. 9 are all now at Old Trafford. Focusing on selling names like Dean Henderson, Fred, Donny van de Beek, and former captain Harry Maguire should be the priority. However, with the uncertain ownership status, you can never truly predict what will happen next.

After weeks of speculation, Rasmus Hojlund will finally join Manchester United. Is he worth the money? Or is Atalanta getting a great deal? Let us know what you think!
