In hindsight, I guess everyone should have seen this one coming from a mile away. Antonio Pierce is the new interim coach for the Raiders. He also coached Jack Jones in high school at Long Beach Poly and in college at Arizona State. We should have known the Raiders would be interested the second the Patriots cut the cord on Jones. It turns out that’s exactly what happened.
Mike Garafolo at NFL Network was the first to report the news:
Jones, 25, showed a lot of promise as a rookie. That has not been the case at all in 2023. The Patriots 4th round pick a year ago has registered a 46.6 overall grade from PFF. You don’t need the PFF grade machine to see that Jones hasn’t played well this year. That’s to go on top of the multiple off the field issues that he’s dealt with. Of course, none bigger than the brilliant idea of bringing a gun to Logan Airport in Boston.
If there is a place that makes sense for Jones, maybe it is the Raiders. It seems like Vegas has new life under Antonio Pierce. I’m not sure they’re any better than before. However, there is no denying that this team plays hard for Pierce. That counts for something. If Pierce can get Jones to buy into his program, maybe this will be a waiver claim that pays serious dividends. Jones is talented after all and was once thought of as a five star prospect in high school.
