After an incredible run to the Super Bowl, the Philadelphia Eagles came up just short. But the pain doesn’t end for Philadelphia there. The Eagles have many free agents to sign this season, but who will be players to walk? Most likely it will be veteran running back Miles Sanders, according to Fox Sports.
“We climbed the mountain,” Eagles coach Nick Sirianni said, via Fox Sports. “We took one step at a time, one step at a time, and then we slip right before we were able to put our flag at the top of the mountain.“
The Eagles pushed all their chips into the middle for this one Super Bowl run. With free agency looming, we will most likely not see the same group next year, including Sanders. The Eagles have already lost Jonathan Gannon to the Cardinals and Shane Steichen to the Colts. Philadelphia only has approximately $6.3 million in cap space. If they want to keep their core intact, contract reconstructions are a must.
Sanders is coming off his best NFL season. With Jalen Hurts being able to open the run game, it allowed Sanders to run easier last season. Sanders rushed for a career best 1,269 yards, 11 touchdowns and only one fumble. With the Philadelphia running back room being packed with Kenneth Gainwell and Boston Scott, signing Sanders is not at the top of Philadelphia’s list.
With Hurts and the Eagles discussing a contract situation after an MVP caliber, Sanders will get the short end of the stick. The Penn State alumni will most likely look for a new team for the upcoming season as the Eagles will probably draft Sanders’ replacement in the upcoming NFL draft.
