Patrick Queen: Will The Ravens Lose Him In Free Agency?

According to Over The Cap, Baltimore currently has $7.3 million in cap space. If the Ravens plan on keeping the best linebacker duo together, they certainly have their work cut out for them. Patrick Queen is about to hit free agency and it seems pretty unlikely that Baltimore has the necessary resources to keep him.

General manager Eric DeCosta spoke about the situation the Ravens are facing with Queen.

“Patrick had an amazing season,” DeCosta said at his end-of-season presser, via Jeff Zrebiec of The Athletic (subscription required don’t click it’s behind that trashbag paywall. Just required to list the source). “I love Patrick. He’s one of my favorite guys on the team. He’s put himself in a great position, potentially, to hit the market and see what his value is. You never know.”

Keeping Queen would seem more doable if the team didn’t have to put the franchise tag on Justin Madubuike. Another player the Ravens are going to have to fight to keep. These are the consequences that come your way when you overpay a bum like Lamar Jackson. It is what it is.

Was the Roquan Smith contract an overpay? Eric DeCosta doesn’t think so

Based on the contract that the Ravens already gave Roquan Smith, it’s pretty hard to justify giving high dollars to another linebacker. Theoretically, the Ravens should also have his replacement in-house after drafting Trenton Simpson out of Clemson a year ago. They also have former Ohio State product Malik Harrison whom they could opt to re-sign for less.
