Will Justin Madubuike Take A Hometown Discount To Stay With The Ravens?
The Baltimore Ravens led the NFL in yards allowed, points allowed, and total sacks in 2023. Justin Madubuike has established himself as one of the better three techniques in the entire league. With the Texas A&M product poised to hit free agency, will the team that drafted him be able to retain his services?
Madubuike weighed in on his upcoming free agency. Baltimore is home but business is business.
“In terms of Baltimore, man, that’s home,” Madubuike said at the Pro Bowl, according to Grant Gordon of NFL Network. “But, you know, business is business, and that side is going to take care of itself.”
“Put up some great numbers, made my first Pro Bowl, All-Pro, and just very, very thankful,” Madunuike said.
Madubuike, 26, was a wrecking ball this past season. He notched 57 tackles with 13.5 sacks and 33 quarterback hits. 13.5 sacks playing the 3-4 defensive end spot is a ridiculous number. Those guys just don’t grow on trees either. It’s not exactly a piece the Ravens can afford to lose.
According to Over The Cap, Baltimore currently has $7.3 million in cap space. That’s what happens when you overpay a bum like Lamar Jackson but that’s a topic for a different day. Patrick Queen, Jadeveon Clowney, Arthur Maulet, and Geno Stone are among the impending free agents Baltimore has to try to get re-signed.
There has been some word that the Ravens might put the franchise tag on Madubuike. The two sides will likely try to get a long term agreement done. If not, Baltimore might just go with the franchise tag route.
