The NCAA Wrestling Championships are less than a week away and Vendetta has you covered with everything you need to know. I broke down the 125, 133, 141, and 149-pound weight classes already, and now it is time for the 157-pound weight class preview.
There are at least a dozen wrestlers who are capable of becoming All-Americans in this bracket. The top seed is Ryan Deakin from Northwestern who dominated the Big Ten Championships to remain undefeated this season.
Hayden Hidlay comes in at the two-seed and is looking to win a national title. He has made the finals before, in his redshirt freshman season he broke onto the scene and never looked back. The North Carolina State Wolfpack wrestler is looking to end his college career with another crack at bringing home a championship.
Outside of the top two guys, there are other Big Ten Wrestlers who can make some noise and make a deep run. Brady Berge from Penn State is the 12 seed, but he has been around some true studs during his time in State College, so I expect him to be a threat to make a semifinals appearance.
Kendall Coleman from Purdue beat Berge in their meeting in the Big Ten quarterfinals. Coleman is a long wrestler who can strike from a variety of positions, making him one big move away from ruining someones tournament.
One of the most exciting wrestlers in the country is the 11 seed at 157, and he can captivate an entire tournament. Jacori Teemer from Arizona State can turn heads. If the tournament stays true to seeds after round one, Teemer will get a chance to wrestle Brayton Lee from Minnesota. That will be a GREAT second round match to watch.
I got Teemer winning his first and second matches of the tournament and getting a chance to become an All-American. Deakin has made tremendous strides in his wrestling, becoming harder to score points on while also dominating on top.
I think Deakin and Hidlay will meet in the finals, and the North Carolina State senior will win his first national championship. Hidlay over Deakin 5-3.
TL//DR: The NCAA Wrestling 157 pound weight class preview. Hidlay, Teemer, and Deakin are all guys to keep an eye on.
