March is here and you know what that means! Yes March MATness! The NCAA Wrestling Championships are right around the corner and I am going to be breaking down the 125-pound weight class and give a preview. I am going to be going through each weight class one by one before the tournament starts on March 18th.

The Story

Spencer Lee from Iowa is the number one seed and no doubt the favorite. He has already won 2 national titles at this weight class and most likely would have won a third if the tournament was not canceled last year. He won the Hodge Trophy in 2019-2020 for the most dominant wrestler in the country.

The Darkhorse

Lee is such a dominant wrestler it is hard to see anyone else at this weight class giving him a run for his money. The best chance someone would have of upsetting him would have to come from the other side of the bracket and doing something crazy on the main stage Saturday night. Jakob Camacho from North Carolina State could be that guy. The 6 seed has an 8-2 record on the year, but has wrestled big matches in the past and if he makes it to the finals could keep the score close against Lee.

Best First Round Match

There is no doubt the best first round match in this weight class will be an All Big Ten matchup. Robert Howard from Penn State and Malik Heinselman from Ohio State are slated to meet round one and we could see fireworks. Heinselman has the experience on Howard, but the Penn State wrestler is no stranger to big matches, dominating the high school level in New Jersey.

Predicition

This is Spencer Lee’s weight class, it has been the last 3 years and will be again this year. The Iowa Hawkeye will win the whole thing and if I had to guess he will dominate the entire tournament from start to finish.

TL//DR: NCAA Wrestling Championship 125 Pound Preview: Spencer Lee will dominate the tournament and win a third NCAA title Saturday night in St. Louis.
