A lot of Steeler fans were not happy when they pulled the trigger on Najee Harris in the first round of the 2021 NFL Draft. However, when it comes to fantasy football, Harris should make those people very happy. Najee Harris should be considered a fantasy rockstar in Pittsburgh. No doubt about it.
The competition on the roster doesn’t include any serious threats. I love Anthony McFarland but he didn’t even get an opportunity when Pittsburgh actually needed someone to step up. For a big back like Benny Snell, god does he run soft. Harris should have no problem stepping in day one as a starter and seizing the job.
Pittsburgh also has a strong defense. It’s one of those teams that should rely on the defense and run game. That’s good news for Harris fantasy owners. Given the change at offensive coordinator and rapidly aging Ben Roethlisberger, it’s hard to fathom this won’t be a run first team.
Don’t forget, Harris should add pass catching value here. It remains to be seen how this offense is going to look. It’s safe to assume the Alabama product will add some value there. He showed off solid hands in college. No reason why that wouldn’t translate at least a little.
More importantly, Mike Tomlin has a track record. When Tomlin has a workhorse back, he’s going to use him as such. Tomlin ran Le’Veon Bell into the ground. Ditto for any stud running back he’s ever had. Tomlin isn’t a running back by committee guy. His main running back is out there at all times. Again… good news for Harris.
We also know the pure talent is off the charts. The former Crimson Tide running back was a huge recruit and a multiple year productive starter. My comp for Harris was if Mark Ingram and Derrick Henry somehow had a baby together. That’s a damn good player if you ask me.
The Steeler fans can be mad at the pick, but fantasy owners sure as hell won’t be. Najee is in a great landing spot for fantasy success. Don’t be afraid to pull the trigger on Harris when drafting your team.
