Mike Francesa Rips Brian Cashman For Scapegoating Dillon Lawson

Garrett just ripped Mike Francesa the other day, but I’m not sure he’s wrong about this next story we’re about to talk about. The New York Yankees have a new hitting coach after firing Dillon Lawson. Former MLB veteran and MLB Network talk show host Sean Casey will now take over the reins as the new hitting coach.

Francesa wasn’t shy to throw his opinion on there on this one. He believes Brian Cashman totally scapegoated Dillon Lawson. Francesa believes Cashman is the one to blame for building a poorly constructed roster.

“Really scapegoating the batting coach making an in-season change, which is extremely rare for the Yankees and their coaching staff,” Francesa started off the latest episode of his self-titled BetRivers podcast.

“Basically laying the blame somewhere. Their first-half performance, especially since Judge went out, has been so abysmal offensively that they had to do something, they had to blame somebody.

“But let’s be honest, let’s put the blame where it belongs and that is on the people that built the roster, and that starts with Cashman.”

Show me the lie. This is totally on Cashman. The offense is putrid. Heading into the break, the Yankees sit 28th in batting average (.231), 26th in on-base percentage (.300), and 19th in runs (400). This is the New York Yankees we’re talking about. A team that dominated the 90’s and has more resources than almost any other team. He’s right, to blame this on the hitting coach is a joke.

Did Dillon Lawson create a poorly constructed roster that relies on Aaron Judge to bail them out of every game? Did Lawson pull off the trade for Josh Donaldson? Did Lawson give away Ezequiel Duran in the Joey Gallo deal?

Without the pocketbooks of George, Cashman has never been a quality general manager. The longer he stays in charge, the better it is for the rest of the league.
