Bouna Ndiaye Does Not Want Victor Wembanyama Adding Weight

Does Victor Wembanyama need to gain weight in order to become a dominant force at the NBA level? Wemby is currently listed at 7-foot-5, 209 and definitely has a bit of the Kevin Durant skinny look to him going on. Would it hurt Wemby to get in the weight room more? Don’t ask his agent that question.

The agent for Wembanyama, Bouna Ndiaye, is very opposed to the idea of Wemby picking up weights. He doesn’t want him lifting at all.

VIA Marc Spears over at Andscape:

“People are wrong. We’re not focused at all on weights. I don’t want to put weight on his body. We’re going to fight to not put weight on his body,” Ndiaye said. “Weight on his body [is] a big mistake. We focus on strength, core.

“We were very pleased that he linked up [with  Kareem Abdul-Jabbar] who played until [41] years old. That’s the path that we want to take. “

Agree to disagree. It’s not about the weight you’re putting on. It’s about what kind of weight you’re putting on. This guy sounds like the same idiot that thought lifting weights was a bad idea for baseball players. If you want to watch the 30 for 30 on Sosa and McGuire, it’s one of the first lines mentioned in there. They were wrong and so is this idiot.

I’m starting to feel bad for Wemby. This dude is getting terrible advice. First, he’s told to idolize Westbrook. Now this? Wemby could very well still succeed without the weight room but he’s also a dope if he really listens to this guy.

Wemby needs to fire his agent immediately. Lifting weights is not a bad thing. Adding positive muscle mass is a smart thing to do in any sport. WTF kind of advice is this guy getting? Who knows what other nonsense he’s being told on a daily basis at this point?
