Folks… we have a trade. The New York Yankees have made a trade to acquire Rangers’ slugger Joey Gallo. John King, a lefty reliever will also head to New York as part of the trade.

Jeff Passan of ESPN was the first to report the trade:

Gallo, 27, made the All-Star team this year and is under team control for next year which is what likely made him appealing to the Yankees. New York is still behind in the second wild card race but this is someone that can help the Yankees even next year.

It’s no secret the Yankees need left-handed help on offense. New York’s left-handed hitters ranking last in the majors in average (.197), 28th in home runs (22) and OPS (.633), and 29th in hard-hit rate (33%). There is a reason why the Yankees wanted someone like this in their lineup. Gallo should help in that department.

Gallo has a batting line of .223/.379/.490 with 25 home runs across 388 plate appearances. Gallo has great power and gets on base. The obvious concern remains that Gallo is a shift waiting to happen. He’s also a very similar player to Aaron Judge, Giancarlo Stanton, and the rest of this lineup. Lumbering, unathletic, and strike out heavy.

The Rangers will receive RHP Glenn Otto, 2B Ezequiel Duran, SS Josh Smith and 2B/OF Trevor Hauver as part of the trade. None of which are ranked at the top of the prospect charts but the deal is considered to be getting a haul of middle tier prospects.

It would appear the trade market is really starting to heat up. Earlier in the day, Starling Marte was dealt to the A’s.
