The Las Vegas Raiders Are Easy To Root For

Now, notice how I said that the Raiders are easy to root for, not be a fan of. Yes, there is absolutely a difference. I can root for a team and want them to succeed but not be a fan of them. Being a fan of the Las Vegas Raiders has to be incredibly draining, I mean come on. They have sucked for the majority, almost the entirety, of the past 20 years. How can you possibly be a fan of that and keep your sanity? Maybe that’s why Chickster is so crazy, defensive, always on edge, and in people’s faces in Slack? The Raiders might have broken him completely. I am not a Raiders fan simply because, well I don’t hate myself.

When you see someone have just terrible luck and have terrible things happen to them then you want to see them do good. You want to see them find a way to turn it around. It might be more like pity, but still, you end up rooting for them. People love a good underdog story, and that narrative describes the Las Vegas Raiders nearly perfectly.

I have been a fan of Derek Carr for a fairly solid amount of time now. To put it all simply, he gets way too much hate, Carr is better than what he has gotten credit for and he finally got some recognition this year. What the Raiders were able to do in 2021 was simply incredible. Everything was stacked against them, they had every opportunity imaginable to just throw in the towel and say, “This just was not meant to be our year.” But they didn’t. They fought and they fought hard, and I respect the hell out of them for that. They were the ultimate underdog story and made the playoffs.

Like I said before, there is a difference between rooting for a team and being a fan. For the sake of Chickster, I hope the Raiders find some success, regardless of how unlikely it is.
