Larry Fitzgerald: Kyler Murray Knows The Offense Better Than Everybody Else

The Arizona Cardinals put their faith in Kyler Murray when they drafted him with the first overall pick in the 2019 NFL Draft. The pairing with the Cardinals just made way too much sense not to happen from the start. Kliff Kingsbury wanted his guy and he got him. Considering the Big 12 connection, there’s no surprise that Murray has picked things up at a rapid pace.

Larry Fitzgerald only confirmed that thought. Fitz claims Murray is way ahead of everyone else when it comes to understanding the Kingsbury offense:

“He knows the system better than we do,” Fitzgerald said, via Mike Jurecki of the team’s website. “He can get us into any play at any time and then he has the ultimate weapon in the exit button.”

Again, not shocking. This offense is tailored to what Murray does. It’s all Air Raid. I would expect that Kingsbury will have some defenses fooled in the early stages of the season. I’m guessing it’s going to be 95 percent shotgun looks. I’m interested to see if the Cards get off to an unreal start because of the lack of familiarity with the rest of the league. It’s very possible.

I’m glad that Fitzgerald finally has a capable quarterback or that has promise to be capable. Fitzgerald has had a rough go of things. The last guy in Arizona that really was successful was Kurt Warner. That was a long time ago. Fitzgerald, 35, is still chugging along and will find himself in the hall of fame one day.

In 2018, Fitzgerald recorded 69 catches, 734 yards, and 6 touchdowns. That’s 40 fewer catches than he had in 2017. Fitzgerald is on the decline but the Cardinals have really loaded up at receiver in the draft. It seemed like they picked one every single round.
