Lamar Jackson Only Has Fantasy Value Because Of His Legs

I’ve said it many times. Lamar Jackson is a great football player. He’s not a great QB. Many people might not know this since they defend Lamar Jackson as a QB, but you actually have to be able to throw to be a good QB. Hell, Jarvis Landry throws better than Jackson. People were starting to realize this last year. Some might hate the “Lamar is a RB” jokes, but it still rings true to this day.

Still, QB or not, he still has fantasy value. As the title indicates, it’s only because of his legs, but hell, whatever works, works in fantasy football. Fantasy football is different that regular football because one is stat driven, and one is success driven. Lamar can put up stats no problem. He had 1,000 yards rushing last year as a QB. For comparison, he was almost 200 yards better than the next QB and if he actually did play the position he should at RB, he would have been 9th in yards. Hell, he also had 7 rushing TDs by himself too.

The problem is the passing ability. He had 2,700 yards passing last year, fucking yikes. Listen to some of the names that had more passing yards than him: Drew Lock, Daniel Jones, Teddy Bridgewater. This just cannot happen. There’s another problem with this. he only had 376 passing attempts last year. That’s an average of about 24 passing attempts per game. Hardly a lot of room for fantasy potential in the passing game. According to Sammy Watkins, it’s only because WRs can’t get open. Part of that is true, part of is not. He doesn’t have the best WR core, but are we sure he would even hit them if they did get open?

Lamar Jackson Is Overrated And It’s Showing Now More Than Ever

The gimmick is running out for Lamar Jackson, how many scramblers really survive in the NFL, much less those that can’t throw? Lamar was a top 10 fantasy QB at 10th this year. Will he dip even further? Lamar should be thought of as less than a QB1 this year in 2021 and from now on. Unless he magically can throw, the run-first QB will be foiled soon enough. Plan accordingly.
