I’m still not over it and you shouldn’t be either. Are we allowed to tell the truth here? Chaim Bloom deserved to be fired and the mistake he made with Kyle Schwarber should be viewed as unforgivable.
I tried to scream it from the clouds all offseason two years ago. The Sox had to retain Schwarber at all costs. The team was coming off an ALCS appearance despite having a pretty flawed roster. The difference was Schwarber who provided the home run bat that changed the entire outlook of the team. Of course, Bloom did the wrong thing and let Schwarber walk on what should have been considered an easy contract to match (4 years, $80 million).
The Phillies went on back-to-back lengthy postseason runs. That includes 11 home runs over the last two years during postseason play.
How did the Red Sox fare? Oh, just two last place finishes. No big deal. Bloom’s answer to replacing the problem included trotting out that bum Franchy Cordero, which obviously failed miserably.
Schwarber should still be in a Red Sox uniform and any general manager that had big boy pants would have understood why they needed to keep him. Of course, that was always the problem was Bloom. Over and over again he continued to prove that he had absolutely no idea how to run a big market club. He lost his job because of it nobody should shed a single tear because of it.
It is what it is. A big part of the job for Craig Breslow will be about finding a hitter in the lineup who can hit homers.
